November Burma Blitz: 7,300 removed (so far)

Nov 14 2009

For November, 2009 our mission is to completely remove all Burma Reed Seeds and lots of the plants from Oleta's South Point.

We removed:
* 7,300 Burma Reed plants (an estimated number of reeds and rhizomes)
* 17 trash bags of seeds, which includes the top 12" of each plant.

Our Invasive Control Strategy, accepted by the DEP, is to
* Remove all seeds to prevent infestation.
* Dig out plants as possible, focusing on small clusters now.
* Dig out major clusters before they can seed again.

On 11/14, a dozen hard-working Volunteers and Team Leaders worked in 2 shifts. This included some "newbies", including 2 from Facebook.

One of the MDC Service-Learning students has been accepted as an S-L Intern with Urban Paradise Guild!
