WHERE:
The nursery is located behind Miami Workers Center (MWC), at the north end of their parking lot.

DRIVING:
You enter the parking lot from 6132 NW 6 Ct
* Look for the vacant lot with a shipping container on it.
* Driveway is next to the fence at the south end of the lot.

Work-Days:
* Weekly: Fridays, from 1-6pm!
* Monthly: 4th Saturdays
Please see Activities for specific scheduling and work-sites.
Most activities take place at the Nursery.

Plants are available on a free or suggested donation basis to the public!

UPG has been operating the nursery continuously, and staffing the Liberty City Farmers Market through the end of April, when it closed for the end of the growing season.

We built Resident Gardens for 5 LC homeowners this year, and plan to do a lot in Summer 2011.

Edible Landscape Planting Projects for 3 New Home Owners!
* UPG Worked with Partner Urban GreenWorks and Roger Horne
* Many Habitat for Humanity Volunteers participated, with lots of commercial veggie plants
* 3 New Habitat for Humanity Home Owner families participated
* UPG Liberty City provided:
> Lots of veggie seedlings from the UPG LC Nursery
> Fruit Trees (Mango, Avocado, Coconut, Papaya) from UPG and the City of Miami.
> Supervision and planning at 2 planting sites
> Picks and other tools

UPG Nursery Initiation!
MWC Block Party!
* Volunteers from UPG & MDC worked very hard in the morning removing the last of the trash and debris, and then began leveling the sloping ground.
* Volunteers from UPG & UM finished leveling the ground and placing groundcloth.
* Volunteer teens from Girl Power transplanted native seedlings, learning about habitat plants by handling them and providing essential care.
* Volunteer children from the area and Miami Workers Center planted thousands of veggie seeds! UM students supervised!
* A rudimentary shadehouse was created!
* A BBQ & Block Party by MWC kept people fed & entertained, with music and a DJ, card tournaments, and a bounce house.

Wildflower Planting!
MWC Volunteers plant wildflowers (planning & plants provided by UPG Oleta) along NW 7 Ave, remove accumulated trash from Nursery area, and beautify the parking lot.
MWC Block Party!

Early August:
Sam Van Leer (UPG) and Hashim Benford (MWC) agree to form a Partnership: MWC provides space and water, and UPG provides everything else to set up and operate a Nursery.
Together, we will re-vision Liberty City starting with the Block, and plant native and edible landscaping.
